Giorgio Scalvini could follow in the footsteps of Cristian Romero, who rose through Atalanta's ranks to prove his mettle in a tougher league

Manchester United and Real Madrid, two of the world's most prestigious football clubs, have reportedly set their sights on Atalanta's highly-rated defender, Giorgio Scalvini. The Italian wonderkid has been turning heads with his impressive performances for the Serie A giants.

According to Italian media reports, both the Red Devils and Los Blancos are keenly interested in securing Scalvini's services in the upcoming winter transfer window. This interest comes as no surprise given that Scalvini is considered one of the best young centre-backs in world football today.

At just 20 years old, he has already established himself as a key player in the Atalanta lineup and earned seven caps for Italy. Standing at 6 ft 4 in tall, he naturally excels in aerial duels but also boasts technical prowess beyond his years. His composure on the ball and brilliant passing ability make him a standout talent among his peers.

However, despite attracting attention from major European sides including Manchester United and Real Madrid, it appears that Atalanta is not eager to part ways with their prized asset. Reports suggest that unless they receive a significant offer for either Scalvini or fellow teammate Teun Koopmeiners - who has also been garnering interest - they have no plans to sell.

Madrid and United are both short of quality centre-backs in their squads and are looking for a solution in the winter transfer window

Both Manchester United and Real Madrid are currently facing defensive challenges which could be alleviated by bringing someone like Scalvini on board.

Erik ten Hag’s side has had its fair share of injury problems this season forcing him to constantly shuffle his Manchester United defenders around. With these ongoing issues plaguing their backline stability, signing a player like Scalvini could provide them with a long-term solution to their defensive woes.

Similarly, Real Madrid is also in dire need of defensive reinforcements. With both Eder Militao and David Alaba sidelined due to ACL injuries, the addition of Scalvini could be a much-needed boost for Los Blancos' backline.

Giorgio Scalvini's impressive performances have not gone unnoticed by Europe's elite clubs. His technical skills combined with his physical prowess make him an attractive prospect for any team. As the winter transfer window approaches, it will be interesting to see if either Manchester United or Real Madrid can tempt Atalanta into parting ways with their young starlet.
