As the 2023 UEFA Champions League Final unfolded, French football legend Thierry Henry expressed his readiness to negotiate a contract extension with CBS Sports, the American broadcasting giant. However, three months after the climactic showdown in Turkey, the renewal of Henry's contract with CBS remains in limbo.
While CBS Sports successfully secured a four-year contract renewal with presenter Kate Abdo, talks with Henry are still ongoing. Despite the uncertainty, Henry is set to return to the American screens next week, providing expert analysis for the Champions League coverage on CBS. He remains hopeful that an agreement will be reached in the near future.
At present, Henry's contract with CBS Sports has one year left, leaving fans and viewers eagerly awaiting the outcome of the ongoing negotiations.
CBS Sports Senior Creative Director and Vice President of Production, Pete Radovich, said:
“Obviously we want to keep everybody together, and right now we’re focused on starting off the season. But Thierry is in a different category just because of his coaching career and all of that, so it’s a little bit different from Jamie, Micah and Kate where they are full-time broadcasters."
“Thierry and I get along great. He knows how I feel about him, and he knows how we feel about him, so I’m not sure what the deal is right now. I just know that everybody is happy."
“When you start talking about deals and all that, that’s when you’re nervous. Right now, knock on wood, it’s a happy family and no one is nervous."
“We’ll sort it out when that time comes.”
Last month, Henry was announced as the head coach of France Under-21s. It remains to be seen whether the Arsenal legend will combine his new role with punditry or step away from the broadcasting scene altogether.
