MetaMedia, a leading media technology company, has recently revealed its exclusive partnership with Theater Sports Network to live stream NCAA college football games in cinemas across the United States.
This collaboration is part of a broader distribution agreement with ESPN, the global sports broadcasting giant. The partnership will enable fans to watch regular season games from the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) and major New Year’s Bowl games on the big screen.
This innovative approach to sports viewing aims to bring the excitement and energy of live games to a wider audience, offering a unique experience for sports enthusiasts.
The agreement with ESPN and Theater Sports Network encompasses the New Year’s Six Bowl games. These include the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl, the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic, the Vrbo Fiesta Bowl, the Capital One Orange Bowl, the CFP Semifinal at the Allstate Sugar Bowl, the CFP Semifinal at the Rose Bowl Game, and the College Football Playoff National Championship Presented by AT&T. In total, the deal will cover around 75 games throughout the 2023-24 college football season.
The ACC games that are broadcasted on ESPN platforms will be available for distribution by Theater Sports Network in the markets of the away teams. For neutral site games, the distribution will be available in both home and away markets. The pricing for attending these cinema screenings will be set by the individual local theaters.
For fans interested in this unique viewing experience, more information and a schedule of games in specific areas can be found on the Theater Sports Network website.
This partnership represents a significant step forward in the evolution of sports broadcasting, offering fans a new way to engage with their favorite teams and games.
MetaMedia Chief Executive Officer, Jason Brenek, said:
“We believe that Theater Sports Network has identified an unmet demand for families and fans to view live sports on massive movie theater screens and are thrilled to be selected as their livestreaming partner.”
Theater Sports Network President & Chief Operating Officer, Scott Daw, added:
"We believe movie theaters are the next great frontier for live sporting events, and we are elated with this unprecedented agreement with ESPN. We look forward to bringing these games to ACC football fans. We believe that theaters have the ability to generate excitement around live sporting events. These events will replicate the feel of a football stadium experience as fans gather and fill theaters to watch the games on the big screen. As we move forward, we hope to add games from additional college football conferences as well as other live sporting events.”
The partnership between MetaMedia, Theater Sports Network, and ESPN represents a groundbreaking step in sports broadcasting. By live-streaming NCAA college football games in cinemas across the United States, this collaboration offers fans an exciting and communal way to experience their favorite teams.
This innovative approach promises to transform how sports content is enjoyed, creating a unique and immersive viewing atmosphere akin to the stadium experience.
