Despite Tchouameni's contract with Real Madrid lasting until 2028, the club's disappointing season may make them receptive to significant offers

Manchester United are reportedly keeping a close eye on Real Madrid's Aurelien Tchouameni as they aim to strengthen their midfield options this summer. The 26-year-old international midfielder has emerged as one of the key players that the Red Devils are monitoring.

Last year, Manchester United focused on bolstering their forward options and goalkeeping position. This year, however, they are keen on targeting midfield reinforcements at the end of the current campaign.

Nottingham Forest's Elliot Anderson, Carlos Baleba from Brighton and Crystal Palace's Adam Wharton have been frequently mentioned in discussions. These players bring with them Premier League experience which has proven successful for United this term through new arrivals like Matheus Cunha from Wolves and Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford. However, there have been doubts over Wharton due to his playing profile being similar to Kobbie Mainoo who is nearing an agreement over a lucrative contract extension.

Scouting overseas talent

In addition to local talent, Manchester United is also scouting overseas for potential recruits. Among several players under consideration, Aurelien Tchouameni stands out as a prime target. Tchouameni’s contract with Real Madrid isn't set to expire until 2028 and there are reports that Los Blancos are interested in extending it further. However, following a disappointing campaign that could see them finish without any silverware, they might be open to substantial offers.

United had shown interest in Tchouameni when he left Monaco in 2022 but he chose Real Madrid instead where he has since become one of the most effective midfielders globally. The unexpected collapse of Chelsea has allowed Michael Carrick’s side an opportunity for Champions League qualification. A victory over Brentford at Old Trafford on Monday would leave United needing just one positive result from their remaining four games to secure a return to Europe's elite club competition after a two-year absence.

With high earners like Casemiro and Jadon Sancho departing, there will be room on United's wage bill for new signings. However, it remains unclear if Barcelona will exercise their option to sign Marcus Rashford for 30m euros (£26.1m) before the 15 June deadline. Manchester United is keen on strengthening its midfield and Real Madrid’s Aurelien Tchouameni is firmly in their sights. This summer promises to be an exciting period of change and potential growth for the Red Devils.
