US media giant Fox Corp has secured a new multi-year broadcast deal with German soccer’s top-tier Bundesliga, bolstering its media rights portfolio across Mexico and Central America. The agreement will commence with the 2026-27 campaign and extend through the 2030-31 season.
Fox is set to showcase all 306 Bundesliga games each season, along with the season-opening German Super Cup game and post-season promotion/relegation playoffs. This totals to an impressive 309 games per season. The broadcasts will be available across Fox's linear channels, its Fox One OTT service, and Tubi - its free ad-supported streaming service.
The coverage will feature both English and Spanish-language commentary on these games. Additional ancillary programming produced by Guadalajara-based Bundesliga Americas Studio team will also be supplied to Fox as part of this deal.
Geographic coverage
This comprehensive agreement covers not only the major Mexican market but also Belize, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama.
Fox's sports rights in Mexico primarily focus on domestic and international soccer including Liga MX Femminile (Mexico’s top-flight), UEFA Champions League (Europe), Concacaf Champions Cup (North America), Coppa Italia (Italy), Ligue 1 (France) and Premier League (England).
Bundesliga Americas executive vice-president, Robin Austermann, said:
“By combining our content studio in Guadalajara and the great platform FOX provides, the Bundesliga is speaking directly to Mexican fans every day: in their language, in their football culture.”
Sky Mexico has been broadcasting Bundesliga action in the region since the 2020-21 season. However their partnership is set to end at this campaign’s conclusion. It seems that Fox was likely preferred due to its wider array of viewing options across linear TV and video on demand services.
Growing presence in Americas
The Americas have become a significant target region for Bundesliga which has successfully expanded its presence over recent years. This growth is evident from their Spanish-language Instagram & TikTok accounts boasting a combined follower count of over 275,500.
Relevent Sports is Bundesliga’s strategic partner across the Americas through a long-term partnership expected to last until 2041. Their goal is to expand commercial activity across the continents. Although no Mexican or Central American players currently play in the Bundesliga, high-profile footballers from these regions have previously appeared in the competition. These include Mexico legends Javier Hernandez (Bayer 04 Leverkusen) and Pavel Pardo (VfB Stuttgart).
With Germany set to compete in the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by Mexico, Bundesliga aims to capitalize on this major event by increasing its market share in these regions.
