US media giant CBS Sports has confirmed it will provide live coverage of the remaining fixtures of this season's Lamar Hunt US Open Cup across its network,

The US Open Cup, as its commonly referred to, is the longest running national soccer competition still active in the United States. It features teams from across the American soccer pyramid from professional clubs in the US top flight Major League Soccer (MLS) to semi-pro and amateur teams further down.

The competition began in 1914 and, apart from the two pandemic-hit seasons of 2020 and 2021, has crowned a champion every year since.

This season's edition is down to its last eight, with four quarter final matches taking place next week (June 7-8). Two of those games will be available via live streaming exclusively on the new CBS Sports Golazo Network, the 24-hour free network dedicated to soccer which CBS launched earlier this year.

The quarter final stage sees two sides from the US second tier USL Championship facing top flight competition as Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC travel to FC Cincinatti and Birmingham Legion FC welcome Inter Miami. Both clubs can be immensely proud of reaching the last eight but will hope to go one step further into the semi finals.

Four other MLS teams complete the list of eight clubs in the quarter finals as Chicago Fire host Houston Dynamo and Real Salt Lake welcome LA Galaxy.

The two quarter finals to be aired on the CBS Golazo network will be those between Chicago and Houston and Birmingham and Miami, meaning second tier Birmingham Legion FC will enjoy nationwide coverage.

The four teams luck enough to reach the semi finals will then see their fixtures aired exclusively on CBS Sports. The full details of that coverage will be revealed after the quarter final stage has concluded, but at least one of those games is expected to air on the free Golazo network.

Defending US Open Cup champions Orlando City SC fell short of defending their crown when they crashed out at the last 32 stage against fellow MLS franchise Charlotte FC.

The CBS Sports Golazo Network is the latest in a series of innovations to come out of US soccer broadcasting. In the wake of Apple TV's groundbreaking 10-year TV rights deal with the MLS, CBS Sports has launched the very first American TV channel dedicated entirely to soccer, and what's more, it's free and running 24 hours a day.

With the popularity of soccer in the United States on the rise, and the sport said to be overtaking NHL ice hockey in the list of prominent sports among young fans, it's understandable that broadcasters want to get in on that action, and we can expect to see more and more movement in this direction in the years to come.
