Women's T20 World Cup 2023 records the highest viewership in women's cricket

This year's World T20 recorded 192 million viewership globally

Women's cricket is experiencing a boom at the moment. Broadcasting in particular has seen a big increase in stakes. During the recent Women's Premier League, Delhi Capitals vs Mumbai Indians game in the final swept all games to write a new record.

Not only in league cricket but also internationally, women's cricket has seen significant growth. All of this started from the international arena only after the iconic 2017 Women's World Cup which led to franchise cricket's advent.

The most recent T20 World Cup in 2023 was again a super successful event with record 192 million global views. From Australia's 2020 World T20, this year's World T20 saw a 44 per cent increase. 

There was a particularly high turnout in South Africa, the host of this year's World Cup. In addition to reaching the finals, they recorded a 130 per cent increase in live coverage.

ICC Chief Executive, Geoff Allardice was left delighted with the numbers and said:

“The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 broadcast and digital numbers are another example of the excellent progress that is being made to accelerate the growth of women’s cricket. As a strategic priority for the sport, we are working hard to engage fans and new audiences with our ICC Women’s events.

“For what was a game-changing event for women’s cricket in South Africa with some exciting and competitive cricket, there was also increased engagement numbers in other key markets in India and the UK which is very pleasing to see.”

“The approach to digital innovation for ICC Women’s events has also seen an uplift in fans engagement with the World Cup and our focus is to continue to provide audiences engaging content throughout the year to fulfil that growing demand.”

The most viewed match of the tournament was the India vs Pakistan encounter which had 32.8 million live viewing hours on Star Sports. The UK viewership numbers also jumped 26% from the last time around. It was the most-watched Women's T20 World Cup in the UK with 6.9 million viewers.

The biggest audience numbers were recorded by ICC's digital channels after the World Cup. Their channels accumulated a total of 1.39 billion views.
