Sky Sports will broadcast the Women's Premier League in UK

The Women's Premier League is set to kick off on the 4th of March following years of build-up by the BCCI. Five teams are set to square off in the first season of the Women's Premier League, where stars from all around the globe will take to the stage for the first time to showcase their talents.

The tournament will run for 22 days between Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals, UP Warriorz, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Gujarat Giants.

Viacom18 networks hold the broadcasting rights of the tournament after signing a deal worth INR 951 crores (US$117 million) for the first five years of the league with BCCI this year. However, the Indian-based television company has agreed to sublicense the broadcasting rights of the mega-event in the UK to Sky Sports, who will telecast the mega-event across the country.

The UK pay-tv network Sky Sports will broadcast all 22 matches of the Women's Premier League's first season starting from the 4th of March. Sky Sports is not new to this setup having previously broadcast the IPL (men's version) in the UK.

WPL has already received an overwhelming response

In its inaugural season, the Women's Premier League has achieved many milestones, making it the most extravagant tournament in Women's Cricket history. The league's broadcast rights are already the highest ever in Women's Cricket history and far higher than the IPL's first season.

The League has injected much-needed money into Women's Cricket with hefty payouts for players. During the auctions in the league, players like Sciver-Brunt and Ecclestone were sold for £320,000 and £180,000 respectively, whereas Ash Gardner was sold for £320,000, Smriti Mandhana for £340,000, and Deepti Sharma for £259,000, which is a record for women cricket.

In the tournament's first game, Harmanpreet Kaur-led Mumbai Indians will face Beth Mooney's Gujarat Giants at 14:30 GMT at Dr DY Patil Sports Academy, Mumbai.
