Manchester United legend is backing Arsenal to break Manchester City's dominance

Former Manchester United midfielder, Paul Scholes, has made his prediction on who will win the Premier League this season. Despite Manchester City's dominance in recent years, Scholes believes that Arsenal is poised to break their winning cycle.

Liverpool has had an impressive pre-season under Arne Slot’s leadership. The team's performance has sparked a belief at Anfield that they can challenge heavyweights like Arsenal and Manchester City this season. However, despite Liverpool's promising start, Scholes did not mention them as potential title contenders.

Guardiola aiming for fifth consecutive win

Pep Guardiola is aiming to secure the Premier League title for the fifth consecutive year with Manchester City. His future beyond the last year of his contract remains uncertain but he continues to focus on maintaining City’s dominance in English football.

According to Scholes and many others, Arsenal appears to be Man City’s strongest opposition from the outset of this season. Mikel Arteta has come close twice before in beating his former boss Guardiola to claim the title.

Manchester United legend, Paul Scholes, said:

“I think the Premier League favourites will be the same as last year, I think City will be the favourites, closely followed by Arsenal. I have said a few times now that I expect Arsenal to be the team to win it this year. They’ve progressed over the last couple of years with Mikel Arteta especially, I just think this year is the time where they’re ready to win it I think.

“It’s not going to be easy, there’s going to be a lot of competition. We know the top seven or eight teams in England are good teams but I just think this year that Arsenal will be the team to break the City cycle. “

Last season saw criticism towards Arsenal due to their lack of squad depth which was unable to match Man City’s momentum during crucial parts of the season. However, with new additions such as Riccardo Calafiori and potentially Mikel Merino joining soon, Arteta will have better support for his starting eleven. Lyon manager Pierre Sage also suggested that Arsenal could win after losing 2-0 against them in Emirates Cup final recently.

Breaking Man City’s winning cycle

Scholes stated that while it is almost impossible not argue against Man City being favourites given their track record; he believes it might be time for a change at top spot with Arsenal ending their reign.

Interestingly enough Harry Redknapp also chose Arsenal when providing his own prediction recently, indicating a growing support for the team.

While Manchester City remains a formidable force in the Premier League, there is a growing belief among experts that Arsenal could be the team to break their winning cycle. With strengthened squad depth and increased support for Arteta's starting eleven, this season could see Arsenal finally claim the title. However, only time will tell if these predictions will come true.
