FIFA, the global governing body for soccer, has recently announced an invitation to tender (ITT) for the media rights to the 2027 Women's World Cup (WWC). This process is targeted at selected territories within Europe and Central Asia. The move marks a significant step towards broadening access to one of the world's most-watched women's sporting events.
Entities interested in participating in this tender process can request ITT documents by emailing fwwc2027-media-rights@fifa.org. FIFA has set a strict bid submission deadline of 12pm CEST on June 3.
The European territories included in this tender are extensive, ranging from Albania and Andorra to Ukraine and United Kingdom, including Channel Islands and Isle of Man. Notably absent from this list is Germany. Central Asian countries involved in this process include Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan.
Previous media rights holders
In most European countries included in this tender process, media rights for the previous edition of WWC held in 2023 were owned by the European Broadcasting Union. Coverage was provided by its members within their respective territories.
The upcoming 2027 WWC will be hosted by Brazil as it brings the tournament to South America for the first time ever. Following an expansion during its last edition held in 2023 where we saw participation from thirty-two teams across eight host cities around Brazil with automatic qualification granted to Brazil itself. In recent months leading up to now FIFA has launched similar tenders not only within Brazil but also extending its reach into other regions such as US and Puerto Rico.
This latest move by FIFA represents a significant opportunity for media entities across Europe and Central Asia to secure broadcasting rights for one of the most prestigious events in women's football. It also signals FIFA's commitment to expanding global access and viewership of the Women's World Cup, further promoting the growth and popularity of women’s soccer worldwide.
