Mohamed Salah has suffered an injury scare that has left Liverpool facing an anxious wait to discover whether he will play again this season, after the Egyptian forward came off during Friday's 3-1 Premier League win over Crystal Palace at Anfield with a problem that forced his substitution inside the final hour.
Salah felt an issue and was withdrawn on the cusp of the 60th minute, prompting immediate concern at the club given the significance of the timing. The 33-year-old is confirmed to be leaving Liverpool as a free agent in June, meaning any remaining fixtures represent the final opportunities for supporters to see him in a Liverpool shirt — making the injury all the more poignant.
Slot's cautious assessment
Manager Arne Slot was deliberately measured in his comments after the match when asked about Salah's availability for the remaining fixtures.
Arne Slot, Liverpool manager, said:
"We don't know if Salah will play again in 2025-26. That's the best answer I can give. We have to wait and see how his injury is and if he is able to return to play. What I do know about Mo is throughout all of these years he has taken such good care of his body that he will have the minimum time required to recover. Let's hope for the best."
Salah has scored 17 goals and provided 13 assists across all competitions this season in what has been a landmark final campaign at the club. Liverpool's final day home game against Brentford on May 24, which had already been designated as Salah's official farewell. Whether he can return for that game — or any game before it — now depends entirely on the nature of the injury sustained on Friday.
