Chelsea Football Club is reportedly in talks with the agent of Bayern Munich defender, Kim Min-jae. The South Korean player has hinted at a possible exit from the Bundesliga giants this summer, sparking interest from several clubs.
Kim joined Bayern Munich from Napoli in 2023 after winning the Serie A title. His performance had attracted attention from several clubs, but it was the Bundesliga champions who secured his services.
The centre-back might have anticipated adding another title to his name within a year given Bayern's reputation as serial winners of the Bundesliga. However, they were surprisingly beaten by Bayer Leverkusen.
Potential exit after short stay
Despite being on track to win the German title in his second season, Foot Mercato reports that this could be Kim’s only piece of silverware with Bayern. He has allegedly 'opened the door' for a summer exit just two years after joining them.
Chelsea and Newcastle United are among those said to have approached his agent regarding a potential move. There is also an unnamed Serie A club reportedly interested in him.
However, it appears that Kim prefers moving to another league rather than staying in Germany and has listed Premier League as one of his top choices.
Financial powerhouses eyeing Kim
Both Chelsea and Newcastle are known for their financial strength and ability to attract top players. In particular, Chelsea has been successful at luring high-profile players into its ranks over time.
Interestingly enough, this isn't Newcastle’s first attempt at signing Kim Min-jae; they had previously tried securing him before he moved to Bayern Munich but were unsuccessful as TEAMtalk reported that he wasn’t interested then. Whether or not their fortunes will change now remains uncertain.
While nothing is set yet about where he will end up next season; what seems clear is that Kim Min-jae's future at Bayern Munich is uncertain. His potential move to the Premier League could be a significant addition to either Chelsea or Newcastle, given his proven track record and experience in top-flight football.
