Slot conceded that expecting Isak to instantly bounce back to the performance level that warranted his £125m price tag would be impractical

Arne Slot, Liverpool manager, has recently provided an update on the condition of their £125m striker, Alexander Isak. The Swedish international is currently recovering from a broken leg.

Alexander Isak's move to Liverpool was not expected to be marred by such misfortune. His transfer from Newcastle United to the Premier League champions was one of the most anticipated events in British football history. However, his journey at Anfield has been fraught with challenges and setbacks.

Isak had shown immense potential during his time at Newcastle United, scoring 54 goals in three seasons - 44 of which were scored in just two seasons. Despite this impressive record, there was an understanding within Liverpool that it would take time for him to regain his form after not playing all summer for his former club.

Training regime and setbacks

Liverpool devised a specially-designed training regime aimed at getting him as close to full fitness as possible following his September 1 arrival on Merseyside. However, an immediate international break complicated matters further with Isak joining the Swedish national team.

Despite maintaining close contact with Sweden physio Ben Rosen during this period, progress was hindered when he sustained a groin injury during a match against Eintracht Frankfurt. This setback paled in comparison to what followed - a leg break while scoring during December's match against Tottenham Hotspur.

This unfortunate incident marked what could potentially be seen as a turning point in both Isak’s and Liverpool’s season.

Recovery progress and expectations

Since then, Alexander hasn't played any matches and isn't expected back until next month. Amid questions about whether he could be called up by Sweden this month given his recovery status; Arne Slot offered some insights on Friday:

Arne Slot, Liverpool manager, said:

"If you ask me now I would say I don’t expect [Isak to go on duty with Sweden]. But we are still one and a half weeks off, there is always co-operation between club and country but I don’t expect him to play for us before that.

"Again, I have to mess up the party again. Let’s say [he comes back] at the beginning of April, he has been out for three and a half months and not trained with the team for three and a half months. The last time he did that, it took him a while to get up to speed. I am really, really looking forward to having him back but don’t get the expectations again so high that the minute he is on the pitch, he is at the level of what we spent that money on."

Slot cautioned fans about expecting too much too soon from their star forward. He admitted that it would be unrealistic to expect Isak to immediately return to the level of performance that made him a £125m player. While Alexander Isak's recovery is ongoing, fans and teammates alike are eagerly awaiting his return. However, as Slot has pointed out, patience will be key in allowing this talented striker to regain his form and contribute significantly once again to Liverpool's success.
