Chelsea midfielder, Moises Caicedo, has agreed to a lucrative new contract that will extend his stay at Stamford Bridge. The 24-year-old Ecuador international has been instrumental in the club's recent successes, including winning the Conference League and the Club World Cup last season.
Caicedo had been advocating for improved terms following his significant contributions to Chelsea's victories. His previous eight-year contract was signed after his transfer from Brighton in 2023 in a then British-record £100m deal, which escalated to £115m. This record was later surpassed by Liverpool's £125m signing of striker Alexander Isak.
The new agreement is set to run until 2033 and is part of a series of renewals designed to reward Chelsea’s top performers. Captain Reece James was the first player to sign such an agreement with at least one more renewal expected before this season ends.
Incentive-based structure
Chelsea has shown its willingness to reward star performers through similar pay-rise agreements based on positive performances. Cole Palmer received such an increase early last season as part of an incentive-based structure adjusted according to certain targets like Champions League qualification.
When asked about potential interest in moving over to Real Madrid during the international break, Caicedo stated: "I'm focused on my club right now. I want to be a legend."
Regarded by Chelsea as one of the world’s best midfielders, Caicedo also holds a position among the club’s captains. He was notably the only player who started every Premier League match last season under former boss Enzo Maresca and continues his consistent performance this campaign with 42 appearances and five goals from defensive midfield.
In addition to Caicedo's renewal, midfielder Enzo Fernandez and defender Levi Colwill are among those known to have discussed potential new contracts in the past six months. However, Fernandez is currently returning from a two-game internal ban following comments made during international duty about wanting to live in Spain's capital, amid ongoing links with Real Madrid. Chelsea's decision to extend Caicedo’s contract reflects their commitment to retaining top talent and rewarding exceptional performance. This move will undoubtedly boost the morale of the team and its fans as they look forward to more victories in upcoming seasons.
