In addition to the suspended ticket ban, UEFA imposed a fine of £26,000 (30,000 euros) on Tottenham

UEFA, the governing body of European football, has imposed a suspended ban on Tottenham Hotspur from selling away tickets. This decision comes in response to an incident where three Spurs supporters made Nazi salutes towards Eintracht Frankfurt fans during a Champions League fixture.

The incident took place at Deutsche Bank Park, the home ground of the German club Eintracht Frankfurt, on 28 January. During this Champions League match - which Tottenham won 2-0 - three supporters were seen making offensive Nazi salutes.

In response to this behaviour, UEFA issued a ban against Tottenham Hotspur for "the racist and/or discriminatory behaviour of its supporters". However, this ban is suspended for a probationary period of one year.

Financial penalties

Alongside the suspended ticket ban, UEFA also fined Tottenham £26,000 (30,000 euros). This penalty was imposed by European football's governing body as part of their efforts to combat racism and discrimination within the sport. In addition to this fine, Spurs were also penalised £1,966 (2,250 euros) due to objects thrown by their fans during the same match.

Tottenham Hotspur responded strongly against these actions by their own supporters. The club described the "conduct of a small number of fans" as "utterly abhorrent". As part of their commitment towards maintaining an inclusive environment within football stadiums and among fan communities alike; they have issued banning orders against those involved in these incidents.

Tottenham Hotspur released statement:

"We can confirm that all three individuals found to be making Nazi salutes towards Eintracht Frankfurt fans have been identified and have received indefinite bans under the club's sanctions and banning policy,"

"The club stands firmly against all forms of discrimination and has therefore taken the strongest possible action. The disgusting behaviour of a minority of so-called fans on the night is in no way reflective of the values of our club and its supporters."

This incident involving Spurs isn't isolated when it comes to inappropriate fan behaviour across Europe's top-tier clubs. Last week saw Real Madrid launching an investigation after one supporter allegedly performed a Nazi salute before their Champions League win against Benfica.

The UEFA's decision to impose a suspended ticket ban and financial penalties on Tottenham Hotspur sends a clear message that racist and discriminatory behaviour will not be tolerated in football. The actions taken by both Spurs and Real Madrid also highlight the clubs' commitment to combating such issues within their fan bases, ensuring that football remains an inclusive sport for all.
