They are the aspect of the team that changes, so when a new young star arrives, it is natural for the fans to want to know more about him. That is the case with Georginio Rutter, the young forward out of France currently playing for Brighton & Hove Albion. At only 22 years of age, he has had a productive season for the up-and-coming Premier League Side, so he deserves for people to know about him. Furthermore, being more informed can help you greatly in making more precise and accurate betting slips if you are a sports betting fan. Following a player throughout his career makes for better fans but also bettors who win more.

Who is Georginio Rutter?

Georginio Rutter is a French professional football player who currently plays for the Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion. He was born on April 20, 2002, in Plescop, Morbihan, France, which makes him 22 years old, soon to be 23. Rutter stands at 1.82 meters or 6 feet tall, his shirt number is 14, and he plays the forward and attacking midfielder positions. Natively French, he is of Martiniquais descent through his father and of Reunionnais Malagasy descent through his mother. Martinique is a part of the French West Indies (Antilles), while Reunion is an overseas region of France, making his parents French citizens too. Naturally, their son plays for the French national team.

Hobbies and Interests

Not all athletes have recognizable hobbies and interests as most of them stick to their careers and spend their free time traveling, doing promotions, working out, and advertising some of their sponsorship deals. However, a select few are famous for their interests, and that is the case with Rutter. He is an avid horse racing enthusiast and partakes in it as an owner. He owns two racehorses right now. He bought his first, Bopedro, in February of 2024, while his second, Coeur Jaune, came later in the year. David O’Meara trains both of them, and they compete frequently.

Bopedro is 9 years old and very experienced, with more than a few wins and solid career earnings, while Coeur Jane is 3 years old and has yet to win. The sport of horse racing has always attracted the masses, and most of the owners are influential and rich individuals, so it makes sense that a young footballing star would have an interest in it. If you are a fan of the sport or if you need another sporting activity to follow and watch apart from Brighton in the Premier League, the latest horse racing odds are out and ready for you to examine.

Youth Career

The French attacker started his career at 15 years old when he joined Menimur. He stayed there from 2007 to 2014, after which he moved to Vannes. He stayed there until 2017, when he made his faithful move to Rennes, which was the launch of his career. Playing for the youth team from 2017 to 2020, he had frequent stints with Rennes II between 2018 and 2020, scoring 5 goals in 22 matches. His league debut for the second tier of the club was on August 25, 2018, against Montagnarde. His first goal for the club came in the 27th minute of the August 31, 2019, game against La Tour Auvergne Rennes, his side’s city rival.

Professional Career

Finally, the time came for the then 18-year-old Rutter to make his professional debut in the Ligue 1 side of Rennes. The chance came against Saint Etienne on September 26, 2020, when he subbed on for none other than Eduardo Camavinga, a key player for Real Madrid right now. However, he did not play a lot at Rennes as a senior, only appearing in 4 games between 2020 and 2021. Looking for more playing time and a chance for further development, a move was not a surprise, and he chose to go to Germany and its Bundesliga.

On February 1, 2021, Rutter became a player for TSG Hoffenheim, and his impact was near instant. It took him 20 days to score his first Bundesliga goal in a 4-0 win against the Werder Bremen side. A few months later, at the start of the following season on August 14, 2021, Rutter scored in the opening game in another 4-0 win, this time against Augsburg. Overall, his production at the club was very noticeable and earned him invites and interviews across Europe. Rutter’s first professional brace happened that same year on November 27 when Hoffenheim won 6-3 against Greuther Furth. He would go on to play 64 games and score 11 goals in all competitions for the club.

After two seasons in Germany, Georginio Rutter left Hoffenheim and Bundesliga and went across the Channel to England. On January 14, 2023, he signed a five-and-a-half-year contract for a club-record fee with Leeds United. The club played in the Premier League to finish the season and then was relegated to the Championship, England’s second-tier domestic competition. He first scored early in the following season on August 26, 2023, against Ipswich Town. Despite the colossal contract that made headlines in England, Rutter only remained at the club for two seasons, appearing in 66 games and scoring 8 goals in all competitions.

The best football in his still young career started this ongoing season when he made a move to Brighton & Hove Albion. On August 19, he joined the club and returned to Premier League football in which would prove to be the right league level for him. His contract will hold him at the club until 2029. His debut came on August 24 in a 2-1 home league win over none other than Manchester United. He subbed in the 90th minute for Yankuba Minteh. His first goal came a month later, a header in what was a 4-2 defeat against Chelsea. Since then, in the season that is yet to finish, Rutter has appeared in 32 games for Brighton and has scored 8 games so far in what is by far his best season as of yet. He appeared in 28 Premier League Games and 4 in cup games.

Transfer fees, salary, and current contract

Rutter’s current market value is estimated to be 32 million euros, an amazing jump this season from what was only 18 million almost a year ago. It goes to show how productive his move was and how important it is for a player to play in the Premier League. As for his transfer fees, his move from Leeds to Brighton was 46.7 million euros. Before that, when he switched from Hoffenheim to Leeds, the transfer fee was 40.5 million, and at the time, his market value was 16 million. When he left his home country and joined Germany, he was only worth 1.5 million, and the transfer was 750K.

In a few years, Rutter became one of the largest hidden gems in what was a very smart and financially sound move for Brighton, who have a treasure on their hands. So far in his career, Reorginio Rutter has earned just over 10 million euros. His current weekly base salary is 90,000 euros with the annual at 4.6 million. As his value continues to rise and as he plays and scores more, he could be one of the most valuable young forwards in England by the time his current contract is up. Do not be surprised if the likes of Liverpool or Manchester City show interest, or even some other European giants like FC Barcelona or Bayern Munich. Perhaps a reunion with his former teammate Camavinga at Real Madrid?

International Career

Representing his homeland of France, Rutter has yet to debut for the senior team. Currently 22 years old, he has been a part of every single France U squad. From 2017 to 2018, he played 17 games and scored 12 goals for France U16. Between 2018 and 2019, Rutter played 19 games and scored 5 goals for France U17, winning bronze at the FIFA U17 World Cup. He played 10 more games in 2019 for France U18 and scored 4 goals. In 2021, it was time for U20, but he remained scoreless in the 4 games he played. He played 7 games for the U21 squad from 2022 to 2024 and did not score. Considering the strength and the sheer amount of talent that France has with its footballers, it could be some time until Rutter gains a safe spot on the senior squad, but his recent form and continuous progress are a great sign.

Current Brighton Season

Brighton & Hove Albion has been a frequent member of the upper half of the English Premier League for the past several seasons. In 2022, they finished 9th. In 2023, they were 6th. In 2024, they fell short and finished 11th. This season, after 31 games played and only 7 left to go, they are holding to their current 9th spot with a chance to not only move up the table but perhaps even get into the top five and play Europa League football next season. In their games played in the 2024/2025 campaign, the team has 12 wins, 11 draws, and 8 losses. They have scored 49 goals so far and allowed 47, which is a limited goal difference of only +2. With 47 points, they are 1 point away from Fulham in 8th and 2 points in front of Bournemouth in 10th.

With a string of good games in the next several weeks, the team could do wonders and end up pretty high in the standings. And speaking of their schedule, it is not so hard. Their last five games were not so productive as they won two, then drew one, and then lost two. They need to get back on top, and perhaps Georginio Rutter can help them do just that and increase his goal tally. The first game is tomorrow, April 12, at home against the struggling and already relegated Leicester. It is a sure win and Stake.com gives Brighton 1.29 odds over the visitors’ 10.00. It is then an away game at Brentford where Brighton is not the favorite, with 2.70 odds going up against 2.50 odds. On April 26, Brighton hosts West Ham, who is currently 16th and, therefore, the underdog, another game that should be a guaranteed win.

The final four games are a combination of rough and easy ones. May 4 sees the team host Newcastle, one of the best teams this season and the current 5th team, who beat Liverpool to win the EFL Cup this year. On May 10, it is an away game against the Wolves, who are in the 17th spot and barely escaped relegation. The final two games are against Liverpool at home on May 18, where a draw would be wonderful to finish the season strong at home before the season’s actual end on May 25 at Tottenham in what could be a great final game for Rutter to score and/or assist. So far, he is at 5 goals and 3 assists for the season, and he is bound to add to that tally in the final seven games in the league, so be sure to bet on him in the coming weeks.
