Micah Richards, the former Manchester City star and current CBS Sports co-host, has recently been labelled a 'disgrace' by his colleagues following the revelation of his extravagant food order live on air. This incident occurred during the coverage of the Champions League play-off matches.
The Champions League returned to screens on Tuesday night with eight play-off matches determining which teams will advance to next month's round of 16. As always, fans eagerly awaited insights from the popular CBS Sports panel comprising Kate Scott, Jamie Carragher, Thierry Henry and Micah Richards.
However, before Wednesday's fixtures kicked off, an unexpected controversy arose when Richard's takeaway dinner order was revealed live on air - much to his co-hosts' dismay.
Extravagant order
As part of their role at CBS Sports, each pundit is allowed to order whatever they desire for dinner. On this particular Wednesday night though, it seemed that Richards had taken full advantage of this perk.
Scott unveiled that Richards had spent a whopping £73.75 on a Chinese takeaway order - earning him the nickname 'Big Meeks'. His extensive menu included lemon chicken, salt and pepper chips, sweet and sour chicken curry special fried rice crispy spare ribs with spicy salt chilli oil and seven deep-fried chicken wings.
This revelation did not sit well with fellow host Carragher who expressed his dissatisfaction over one specific detail in Richard's order.
Reaction from co-hosts
Upon seeing a screenshot of Richard’s lavish meal request displayed live during their show coverage; Liverpool legend Carragher voiced out his disapproval calling it a disgraceful act by Richards.
Liverpool legend, Jamie Carragher, said:
"You've ordered that much stuff and you think how hard they have to work to get this all ready and bring it to us, you haven't even given them a tip.
"This is a disgrace, you're a guy who pays £300 for a haircut and you won't give someone a tip? When the guys gets here will you not just slot him a few quid."
In response to this criticism from Carragher and other panel members; however; Richards assured them he would tip the delivery driver generously upon arrival as compensation for such an enormous food order. When Scott asked Richards to justify his large order, he responded with a light-hearted comment: "This is just a day in the life, bulk season is coming. Look at the guns, they're popping out. We're training five times a week."
While this incident added an unexpected twist to the Champions League coverage, it also provided some comic relief for sports fans and betting enthusiasts alike. It remains to be seen whether Richards will continue his extravagant food orders or opt for more modest meals in future broadcasts.
