Rose has won two Austrian Bundesliga titles and an Austrian Cup with Red Bull Salzburg, and the DFB-Pokal and DFL-Supercup with Leipzig

In a significant development for English football, Marco Rose has agreed to take over as the manager of Bournemouth on a three-year contract. This change in leadership will occur when current manager Andoni Iraola departs at the end of this season.

Bournemouth announced last Tuesday that 43-year-old Iraola would not be renewing his contract at Vitality Stadium. The news marked an end to his tenure and opened up opportunities for potential successors. The Cherries considered three candidates for their new managerial role: German manager Marco Rose, Ipswich's Kieran McKenna, and Rayo Vallecano's Inigo Perez. After careful consideration, they decided on 49-year-old Rose who has been without a club since being dismissed by RB Leipzig in March 2025.

Rose is no stranger to managing top-tier teams despite never having managed in England before. He began his managerial career in 2012 with Lokomotive Leipzig and subsequently led Red Bull Salzburg, Borussia Dortmund, Borussia Monchengladbach and RB Leipzig. His impressive track record includes leading Red Bull Salzburg to two Austrian Bundesliga titles and an Austrian Cup victory. Furthermore, he won the DFB-Pokal and DFL-Supercup with Leipzig. His credentials made him one of the candidates considered by Tottenham Hotspur following Thomas Frank's dismissal earlier this year.

Bournemouth under Rose

When Rose takes charge of Bournemouth next season, he will be steering a team preparing for its fifth consecutive season in the Premier League - potentially even planning their first campaign in Europe.

Bournemouth released statement:

"Everyone at AFC Bournemouth looks forward to welcoming Marco to Vitality Stadium as he begins his role as head coach in the summer,"

"The club's immediate focus remains firmly on finishing the current campaign as strongly as possible, with the players and staff continuing to show full commitment to achieving positive results and building on the current 13-game unbeaten run."

Currently ranked 8th in Premier League table following Saturday’s win against Newcastle United FC, Bournemouth only trails sixth-placed Chelsea based on goal difference alone. With Rose's leadership and experience, the Cherries could be looking at a promising future in both domestic and European football. Marco Rose's appointment as Bournemouth manager marks an exciting new chapter for the club. His proven track record of success in European football could provide the necessary boost to propel Bournemouth into their first-ever European campaign and solidify their standing in the Premier League.
