Liverpool have been tipped to emerge as the frontrunners to sign Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon this summer, with transfer experts suggesting the Reds are in a stronger financial position than Bayern Munich to meet the Magpies' asking price for one of the Premier League's most sought-after wide attackers.
Transfer analyst Christian Falk has suggested that Gordon's likely fee of around £65-75 million is too high for Bayern Munich given their summer budget priorities, while Liverpool — who will have significant wage space freed up following Mohamed Salah's departure in June — are considered better placed to fund the deal. Gordon also comes from a family of Liverpool supporters, a personal dimension that could influence his preference if multiple clubs make formal offers.
Gordon's situation at Newcastle
Gordon, 25, has not formally requested a transfer but there is an expectation at St James' Park that he is open to a move. Newcastle CEO David Hopkinson has publicly stated that the club intends to "buy well and sell well" this summer, an acknowledgement that high-value departures are part of the financial strategy. Gordon is currently nursing a hip injury and has missed the club's last two fixtures.
He has scored 17 goals and provided five assists in 45 games this season and is widely regarded as one of England's most effective wide players, having also impressed at Champions League matches for the Magpies this campaign.
Arsenal remain the most frequently cited frontrunner in the Gordon chase, with the Gunners believing he would welcome a move to London. Manchester United have also submitted a formal offer. The battle for Gordon's signature is shaping up to be one of the defining storylines of the summer window — and Newcastle's willingness to sell will ultimately determine whether any deal gets done at all.
