In a significant development for the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL), Kansas City Current has inked a 10-year agreement with railway company CPKC for the naming rights of the team’s home ground. This partnership not only strengthens the bond between the soccer club and the railway company but also aims to unlock new opportunities to support the local community of Kansas City.
CPKC, a railway company with its headquarters in Kansas City, was established with the mission of connecting Canada, the US and Mexico through a dedicated international railway. The company's commitment to the city and its people is evident in this partnership, which will see the home ground of Kansas City Current rebranded as the CPKC Stadium.
Keith Creel, President and CEO of CPKC, said:
“We are incredibly proud to sponsor the Kansas City Current and support this history-making project here in the city that is at the heart of our North American rail network.
“CPKC has been a longtime champion of women’s sports and of investing in our communities. This stadium and this partnership with the Current will build on that legacy as together we write a new chapter here in Kansas City.”
CPKC Plaza: A New Gathering Space
In addition to the stadium, the public gathering space in front of the newly named CPKC Stadium will also bear the railway company's name. The CPKC Plaza will serve as a welcoming space for guests attending KC Current matches, as well as other events such as concerts hosted by the venue. This move is expected to enhance the overall experience for visitors and fans, making it more than just a visit to a soccer match.
