The women's version of the Tour de France, known as the Tour de France Femmes, drew nearly 20 million viewers on public broadcaster France Televisions in 2023. However, compared to last year's edition, average viewership dropped by about 11% per stage.
This drop is seen even though each stage-managed to attract an average French audience of two million spectators on free-to-air channels like France 2 and France 3. The race maintained a considerable average audience share (24.8%) across both these platforms.
One noteworthy peak in viewership was recorded during the seventh stage, attracting approximately 4.3 million spectators, which translated into a significant audience share of around one-third (34.6%).
In terms of digital engagement via online streaming and other platforms provided by France Televisions, racing videos garnered an impressive view count reaching up to roughly around 1.3 million, showing an increase from previous years' tally with growth pegged at eight per cent
Eurosport’s coverage also did well, drawing close to 15 million views for their content related to this event, which calculated into a rise compared with their statistics from last year (7.14%).
From abroad too there seems to be some interest especially notable among Dutch fans where a significant portion (42%) of TV audiences chose to watch this particular cycling event when it came down upon them during its seventh stage.
Moreover, digital presence continued to gain popularity as visitors flocked onto the official website for Tour De le Femme with unique visitor counts rising dramatically over prior-year figures, doubling by a staggering eighty percent to nearly 2.7 million visitors.
During the entire course, which lasted a few weeks, unique individual visitors visited the site for the entire length of the tour. In addition, website visits soared, reaching a mark slightly exceeding four million, a huge jump of sixty-seven-point seventy-seven per cent.
