Starzplay, the popular streaming platform, has successfully renewed its exclusive broadcast rights deal for Italian soccer’s Serie A in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. The new agreement extends through to the 2027-28 season, ensuring that fans can continue to enjoy live and on-demand matches with dual-language commentary in Arabic and English.
The extended rights deal is valued at a substantial €28 million ($32.6 million) for a three-year cycle. This renewal was concluded just before the start of the new campaign which kicked off on August 23rd.
In recent seasons, Serie A was also broadcasted in the MENA region by media and entertainment organization Abu Dhabi Media. However, Starzplay has held exclusive rights to the league since as far back as the 2022-23 season.
More than just live matches
Beyond live content, this partnership will see Serie A collaborate with Starzplay to hold events with major television networks and media outlets within MENA region. This collaboration aims at enhancing fan engagement while promoting Italian football across these territories.
Fans will not only have access to live matches but also match replays, highlight packages, and analysis - providing an all-rounded experience for sports enthusiasts.
Starzplay's sports offering doesn't stop at football; it includes other exciting sporting events such as AFC Asian Cup, mixed martial arts’ UFC and PFL along with professional golf tournaments - making it a go-to platform for diverse sports fans across MENA region.
Global expansion of Serie A broadcasting rights
Serie A's global appeal continues to grow with broadcasting rights being picked up by various platforms worldwide. Earlier this month CazeTV – a Brazilian sports streaming platform run by LiveMode agency and streamer Casimiro Miguel – added Serie A to its portfolio of major European soccer leagues.
Meanwhile, DAZN, the global sports streaming service, has acquired rights in several international markets including the UK and the US. In Italy, DAZN shares domestic broadcasting rights with pay-TV broadcaster Sky Italia.
