Singaporean telecommunications operator, StarHub, has recently entered into a carriage deal with the country's state broadcaster, Mediacorp. This strategic partnership will allow Mediacorp to carry content packages from StarHub TV+ on its mewatch streaming service.
The most significant aspect of this deal for sports fans is that it will enable mewatch to offer live sports properties such as English soccer's top-tier Premier League to its customers. The Premier League is one of the most popular football leagues globally, boasting millions of viewers each season.
StarHub holds Premier League rights through a deal unveiled in early 2022, which covers six seasons in total, through the 2027-28 campaign. The company airs games through its StarHub TV+, mobile and broadband platforms and additionally provides on-demand match replays. It shows all 380 Premier League matches per season.
Over 7,000 hours of live sports
In addition to the Premier League coverage, there will be "over 7,000 hours of live sports," according to StarHub. This impressive total includes not only football but also other popular sports like racket sports (tennis or badminton), cricket and golf.
Nikhil Eapen, StarHub chief executive, said:
"At StarHub, we are determined to make technology and media work better for people. By joining forces with Mediacorp, we are bringing audiences the widest, most exciting portfolio of content. From global sporting spectacles to local favourites, in ways that are simple, flexible, and accessible."
This extensive offering makes this new partnership between StarHub and Mediacorp an exciting development for both general sports fans and those interested in sports betting alike. The recent content sharing agreement between Singapore’s telecommunications operator Starhub and state broadcaster Mediacorp marks a significant milestone in enhancing their customer experience by providing access to an extensive range of live sporting events via their streaming service - mewatch.
