Former Reds defender and popular TV personality has raised concerns about his former club's chances this weekend

According to The Standard, Sky Sports pundit and Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has made a bleak prediction for the upcoming Manchester City vs Liverpool match. According to The Standard, he believes that a draw is the best outcome Liverpool can realistically hope for in this weekend's showdown.

The two teams at the top of the Premier League table are set to meet in an early title showdown at the Etihad Stadium. This venue has proven challenging for the Reds who have not secured a league victory there since 2015.

Both teams facing some injury concerns

Manchester City, led by Pep Guardiola, face injury concerns going into the game. Key players such as Erling Haaland, John Stones and Mateo Kovacic are all doubtful starters due to injuries. Kevin De Bruyne also remains a long-term absentee from their lineup.

On the other hand, Liverpool will be without Andrew Robertson and lack a defensive midfielder of Fabinho’s calibre who surprisingly left during the summer. These absences could leave them vulnerable against Manchester City’s attack.

Carragher has doubts about Liverpool

Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher told Sky Bet's Stick to Football podcast:

"It will be tough - the best Liverpool will get is a draw. Liverpool’s record there is poor."

"Liverpool have the best goalkeeper in the world and they’ll definitely need him. Liverpool’s defensive record has been really good this season and Virgil van Dijk has been not too far away from his best.

Carragher also highlighted Jeremy Doku as a potential threat to Trent Alexander-Arnold who has spent his last week playing midfield for England rather than his usual right-back position. This shift could potentially expose him to more direct confrontations with Doku.

Jamie Carragher of Sky Sports went on:

"But there are still chinks in the armour with Robertson out, Trent in that midfield going back to full-back, and I’m thinking of Doku coming up against him."

"Also, Liverpool defensively in midfield still haven’t really got that top-class number six, so it will be difficult. The best they’ll get is a draw."

We will have to wait and see if Carragher's draw or less prediction for Liverpool will come to fruition.

Manchester City vs Liverpool will be broadcast on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League on Saturday at 12.30

This weekend's showdown promises to be an exciting encounter between two of the Premier League’s top teams. Regardless of predictions and opinions, the actual outcome will only be decided on the pitch.
