During the second game under Michael Carrick's management at Manchester United against Arsenal, Patrick Dorgu suffered a severe injury

Manchester United are set to head to Ireland for a training camp, and the inclusion of Patrick Dorgu in the squad has raised concerns about his teammate Matthijs de Ligt's injury status.

Patrick Dorgu sustained a serious injury during Manchester United’s second game under Michael Carrick against Arsenal. Since then, he has been on an arduous journey towards recovery. His rehabilitation process began with gym work during the international break, followed by individual training on grass once the break ended. Now, he has been included in Manchester United’s training camp squad for Ireland.

Dorgu's return is a significant fitness boost for Man Utd but also casts an ominous shadow over his teammate De Ligt's condition.

Worrying absence

Matthijs de Ligt last played for Man Utd on November 30 in the Crystal Palace fixture. Following that match, then-head coach Ruben Amorim described De Ligt’s absence as due to a “small issue”. However, this "small issue" hasn't seen him return to the pitch since then.

The managerial reins at Man Utd have since passed from Amorim through Darren Fletcher and onto Michael Carrick. Despite these changes at the helm, there have been no updates regarding De Ligt’s condition which adds an element of mystery around his prolonged absence.

Carrick has maintained a cautious tone when discussing player injuries - particularly back injuries which are notoriously difficult to manage - but De Light's continued absence raises questions about its severity.

Comparing recoveries

Dorgu suffered what was considered a serious injury at the end of January – almost two months after De Ligt – yet he is now fit enough to join the training camp. This comparison casts a worrying light on De Ligt’s condition.

Despite having a two-month head start, De Ligt is not even fit enough to travel with the team, let alone participate in training or gym work. At this point, it seems fair to assume that De Ligt won’t play again this season. This is a significant blow for Manchester United as he was on track to have a genuinely world-class season before his injury.

While Dorgu's return is undoubtedly good news for Man Utd and their fans, it also highlights concerns about Matthijs de Ligt's ongoing absence from the pitch. As sports fans and sports betting enthusiasts alike watch closely, only time will tell how these developments will impact Manchester United’s performance in the coming months.
