During the recent 4-0 FA Cup quarter-final triumph over Liverpool, Silva marked his 450th appearance for the club

Manchester City assistant manager Pep Lijnders has hinted that the nine-year tenure of midfielder Bernardo Silva at the club may be drawing to a close. The 31-year-old's contract is set to expire at the end of this season, and he has yet to sign an extension. This development comes amidst speculation linking Silva with La Liga leaders Barcelona, Serie A side Juventus, and clubs in America.

Manchester City assistant manager, Pep Lijnders, said:

"You never replace a player with the same kind of player because they don't exist. Bernardo Silva is unique. The way he controls games, the way he moves, the way he receives, the way he leads, the way he sees the solutions. All these things.

"But it will be hard because, as I said, in the game, when he is not playing you will see how he is missed - and that's one game. Imagine a season. But every good story comes to an end, and I hope he enjoys the last months - there are only six weeks - and has a good farewell.

"He deserves all that attention as well."

Lijnders' statement that "every good story comes to an end" seems indicative of a potential departure for Silva. The Portuguese international has been instrumental for Manchester City since his arrival from Monaco in 2017. Silva recently made his 450th appearance for the club during Saturday's 4-0 FA Cup quarter-final victory over Liverpool. This milestone match also marked another achievement - his recent Carabao Cup success was his 18th piece of silverware with City.

Guardiola’s most selected player

Manager Pep Guardiola is known as a long-time admirer of Silva, who holds the distinction of being Guardiola’s most selected player throughout his managerial career. Following Kevin de Bruyne's departure last season, Guardiola appointed him as captain - a testament to both his skill on the pitch and leadership qualities off it.

As speculation about Silva's future continues, Manchester City have reportedly shown interest in Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson as a potential replacement this summer. While it remains uncertain whether Anderson could fill such big shoes left by Silva if he departs, it does indicate that Man City are preparing for all eventualities.

While Bernardo Silva’s time at Manchester city might be coming to an end after nine fruitful years filled with numerous accolades and memorable performances; one thing is certain – he will leave behind a legacy that will be remembered by fans and the club alike.
