Salah reveals club is yet to initiate talks for a new contract

Liverpool winger, Mohamed Salah, has sparked speculation about his future at Anfield following his remarkable performance in the recent 3-0 Premier League victory over Manchester United. The 32-year-old hinted that the 2024-25 season could potentially be his last with Liverpool.

Salah is currently in the final year of his contract with Arne Slot's team. His uncertain contract situation has attracted significant attention from other clubs, particularly those within the Saudi Pro League who have been persistently pursuing him.

Despite a £150m offer from Al-Ittihad for Salah last summer, which Liverpool declined, there were no serious bids for him this time around. This lack of interest is surprising given Salah's undeniable importance to Liverpool's attack and his consistent performance on the field.

Stellar performance continues

The former Chelsea and Roma player continues to be a key figure in Liverpool’s attacking line-up. In their recent match against Manchester United at Old Trafford, he scored for an impressive seventh game in a row.

After providing two assists for Luis Diaz during the first half of the game, Salah seized another opportunity resulting from a Man United error to score yet again at Old Trafford. This marked his tenth goal at this venue - equalling a record previously set by Alan Shearer.

Salah’s achievement makes him only the second player ever to score ten goals at one Premier League away ground – an accolade he shares with Shearer who achieved double figures at Leeds United's Elland Road.

Post-match interview raises eyebrows

Inevitably during his post-match interview with Sky Sports News, questions arose regarding Salah’s contract situation. His response when asked if he had played for the last time at Old Trafford raised more than just eyebrows among fans and pundits alike - it dropped a bombshell hinting at his possible departure from Liverpool in the 2024-25 season.

Liverpool star winger, Mohamed Salah, said:

"I had a good summer and had a long time to myself to try to stay positive because as you know it's my last year at the club. I just want to enjoy it and I don't want to think about it. I feel like I'm free to play football and then we'll see what happens next year," Salah said.

"I was coming to the game today thinking it could be the last time. Nobody at the club has spoken to me yet about a new contract so I just play this last season and then see at the end of the season. So far, we don't know with which club, but so far yeah my last game here with Liverpool. It's not up to me but nobody talk to me about a contract with the club. We'll see."

While it remains to be seen what the future holds for Salah, one thing is certain - his contribution to Liverpool and his record-setting performances will not be easily forgotten by fans or replaced by the club.
