Former England defender, Kieran Trippier, has announced his departure from Newcastle United at the end of his contract this summer. The right-back's exit comes after a successful stint with the club that saw him play a pivotal role in its resurgence under head coach Eddie Howe.
Trippier joined Newcastle in January 2022, marking the first signing following the takeover by a Saudi-led consortium. At that time, Newcastle was struggling in relegation places. However, Trippier's arrival marked a turning point for the club as he played an instrumental role in its revival.
The former England international not only helped steer his team out of relegation but also led them to win their first major domestic trophy in seven decades - lifting the EFL Cup last season. His contributions didn't stop there; he played an integral part in helping the club qualify for prestigious tournaments like Champions League twice - once in 2023 and again two years later.
Fond farewell
In a joint statement released recently, 35-year-old Trippier announced his decision to leave at season-end from what he described as "the club where I felt most at home". He expressed gratitude towards Howe who had shown trust and confidence by signing him for Newcastle after their previous collaboration at Burnley.
Kieran Trippier, Newcastle player, said:
"It's emotional and I'm really going to miss it,"
"I want to say a massive thank you to the supporters for all the support through the good and the bad times for me personally. You've always supported me, always stood by me.
"To my team-mates, it's going to be emotional. It's been an amazing journey with you guys. I'm going to miss you all, but to win a trophy with you guys was really, really special - the best of my career."
Howe reciprocated this sentiment stating that although it is sad to see Trippier move on, he knows that the right-back will be "giving absolutely everything to end his time here on a high".
While it is yet unclear where Trippier will be heading next post-Newcastle era, one thing remains certain: His impact on and off-field during his tenure with The Magpies will long be remembered by fans and teammates alike. As we wait for further updates about this talented player’s future, we can only hope that his next journey is as successful and impactful as his time at Newcastle.
