UEFA Europa Conference League champions West Ham United take on Olympiacos tonight as they bid to remain top of Europa League Group A. The match, which will be broadcast live on TNT Sports as the London club look to bounce back from their defeat against the Greeks away from home two weeks ago.
Despite that setback, it's been a very positive start to the season for David Moyes' men, as they have won two of three Europa League games so far and sit just four points adrift of the European qualification places in the Premier League.
Many impressed by West Ham summer transfer business
One of the keys to West Ham's success has been excellent recruitment in the summer.
Among the impressive new recruits is Ghana international Mohammed Kudus, who has been singled out by former West Ham player Joe Cole as a standout performer.
Joe Cole, a former West Ham playmaker, recently shared his thoughts on the club's summer signings, and he wasted no time in waxing lyrical about the exciting attacker.
Cole expressed his belief that the 23-year-old will become a "top player".
Kudus was signed by David Moyes from Ajax for a reported fee of £38 million. Since his arrival, he has scored eight goals in 16 appearances, an impressive feat.
Kudus is expected to play a crucial role in the upcoming UEFA Europa League match against Olympiacos at the London Stadium.
While Kudus has been a standout, Cole also praised two other summer signings. Midfielders Edson Alvarez, who also joined from Ajax, and James Ward-Prowse who arrived from Southampton, have also impressed many with their performances this season, including Cole.
Joe Cole impressed with West Ham recruitment
Cole sat down with TNT Sports colleague Jermaine Jenas to discuss West Ham's summer recruitment, among other things.
Joe Cole, football pundit at TNT Sports, said:
“That’s what the club have done really well."
"Ward-Prowse has been brilliant. I’ve always known he was a good player but it’s not until you watch him week in, week out, you see exactly what he brings."
“Alvarez has been fantastic, he’s bedded in but gets around the pitch, he's a good midfielder.”
Despite the praise for other players, Cole singled out Kudus as the main one to watch. He suggested that Kudus' power and potential make him a promising prospect for the Premier League.
Joe Cole, football pundit at TNT Sports, added:
“Kudus is the one to look for though, that kid, man. He was at Ajax, and you look at Antony who was at Ajax, but not really settled into the Premier League."
"He's going to be a top player, he's my one."
West Ham summer signings, particularly Mohammed Kudus, have added significant strength to the team. As they prepare for their upcoming match against Olympiacos, fans and critics alike will be watching to see how these players perform.
Their performance may well depend on the extent to which Moyes rotates his squad for this game, as he juggles Premier League commitments.
However, as Olympiacos showed they are more than capable of beating his team last time out, the Scot will surely name a respectable starting line-up for what should be a testing night for The Hammers.
