Manchester United's performance under new boss Ruben Amorim has been less than stellar, but team captain Harry Maguire remains optimistic about the future. Despite the club's current struggles, Maguire believes in Amorim's ability to lead the team back to success.
Ruben Amorim took over as head coach of Manchester United last month after Erik ten Hag was dismissed from his position. However, since his arrival, the Portuguese boss has struggled to improve the club’s form significantly. Currently, Manchester United is sitting 14th in the Premier League table and is nine points away from fifth place.
Despite only securing two wins in five league games under Amorim’s leadership, there is still a sense of optimism within the squad. This optimism stems primarily from Harry Maguire who has faith that their new coach can guide them back to their former glory.
Total opposite of predecessors
Maguire highlighted that Ruben Amorim brings a different approach compared to his predecessor Erik ten Hag. He described him as "the total opposite" and admitted that this transition could take time due to significant differences between figures in charge so far this term.
Harry Maguire, Manchester United player, said:
"He's come in, he's done everything he needs to do,"
"He's really demanding. The thing is, the managers in styles, they're not a similar style, they're total opposite of what they want and what they demand. So the transition period is going to be tough. We all have great belief in the management and all the coaching staff and I'm sure will turn around and he knows exactly what he needs to do to get this club back."
Faith in future success
Harry Maguire further expressed confidence in Ruben Amorim by referencing his past achievements with Sporting CP where he led them to their first title following a 19-year drought - proof that he is programmed for success.
Harry Maguire added:
"He's a winner so I'm sure he will be frustrated because he hates losing games,"
"It's like all of us players, we don't like losing football matches whether it's on the training pitch, or out there at Old Trafford or at an away football stadium. It is frustrating, obviously, we want to win football matches, we want to get three points and make our fans happy. At the moment, this season, it's not been good enough."
However, it wasn't all praise as even though expressing faith in his new coach; The England defender admitted that the season has not been up to scratch. This honest admission shows a level of self-awareness within the team and a drive to improve their current standing. While Manchester United's performance under Ruben Amorim has been less than ideal, Harry Maguire's faith in his new coach suggests that there is hope for improvement. The transition may take time due to the stark differences between Amorim and his predecessor, but with patience and perseverance, success could be on the horizon for Manchester United.
