Reports suggest that Bayern Munich is considering recalling Tel due to their escalating injury crisis and upcoming significant matches

Bayern Munich is reportedly preparing to recall French forward, Mathys Tel, from his loan spell at Tottenham Hotspur. The young player's return comes amidst a developing injury crisis and fixture congestion for the German club.

Tel was loaned to Premier League side, Tottenham Hotspur in January by Vincent Kompany for the remainder of the 2024–25 season. Despite an option to buy clause included in the loan deal for a fee of £50m this summer, it seems that Bayern may be forced to cut short Tel's time in north London.

The French forward started his tenure with Spurs on a high note, scoring his first goal during stoppage time of a 2–1 away defeat against Aston Villa in the FA Cup on February 9th. However, since then he has made just four league appearances and completed 90 minutes only once.

Early recall amidst injury crisis

According to Kicker reports, Bayern Munich may have no choice but to recall Tel earlier than expected due to an escalating injury crisis within their ranks. The team will travel to Orlando, USA in June for the FIFA World Club Cup without many of their international players who are engaged with Nations League matches representing Germany, France and Portugal.

Adding fuel to this fire is an injury sustained by Japanese defender Hiroki Ito during their recent 3-2 win against St Pauli. This extends a long list of unavailable players including Kingsley Coman, Alphonso Davies and Aleksandar Pavlovic.

Impact on Tel’s career ambitions

The decision could potentially impact Tel's career ambitions as he had previously expressed interest in staying at Tottenham beyond his loan period. His contract with Spurs is due till June 30th but FIFA has opened up a new transfer window between June 1st and June 10th, leading to two separate windows this summer.

Mathys Tel, Tottenham striker, said:

“Why I chose Tottenham, because that was the best option for me, what was important for me. I felt the commitment, I spoke with the president [chairman Daniel Levy], talked with the manager. I’m young, I’ve started to grow up and this was the best option for me and I’m very happy.”

The early recall of Tel and other loan players sent abroad is a strategic move by Kompany to manage Bayern's injury crisis and fixture congestion. However, it remains unclear how this will affect Tel's future career trajectory.
