Arsenal Football Club is reportedly considering Paris Saint-Germain’s Luis Campos as a potential replacement for Edu Gaspar, according to Sky Sports News. The club's search for a new sporting director is still in its early stages, but several names have already emerged as possible contenders.
Luis Campos, currently serving as a football advisor at PSG, has been identified as a strong target for the Gunners. His contract with the French giants expires in the summer, making him an attractive prospect for Arsenal.
Campos boasts an impressive resume in sports management and has worked with top-tier clubs like AS Monaco and Lille before joining PSG. He is known for his keen eye on talent acquisition; some of his notable signings include Bernardo Silva, Kylian Mbappe, Victor Osimhen, Rafael Leao and former Gunner Nicolas Pepe. However, it's worth noting that only his stint at Lille can be considered comparable to what he would face at Arsenal given that both 2013 Monaco and present-day PSG enjoy significantly larger budgets than most other teams in their respective leagues.
Other potential candidates
While Campos seems to be high on Arsenal's list of potential replacements for Edu Gaspar, he isn't the only one being considered. Simon Rolfes from Bayer Leverkusen and Roberto Olabe from Real Sociedad are also reportedly under consideration by the North London club.
Despite these developments coming into light recently, there is no immediate pressure on Arsenal to make a decision soon. Current sporting director Edu Gaspar will serve six months' notice before leaving his position while Jason Ayto fills in on an interim basis until June next year when Campos becomes available – assuming he doesn’t extend his deal with PSG.
While it remains uncertain who will take over from Edu Gaspar, Arsenal's search for a new sporting director is already underway. With several strong candidates in the mix, it will be interesting to see who the Gunners eventually choose to steer their sporting direction in the future.
