When Apple and Major League Soccer (MLS) first announced plans for MLS Season Pass, many fans of North American soccer were understandably sceptical. After all, nobody was quite sure how the transition would pan out.

However, one month after the launch of Apple TV’s new streaming service, MLS Season Pass has received plenty of plaudits, not least for its picture quality.

What makes MLS Season Pass stand out from the crowd?

MLS Season Pass has been praised for its super-crisp picture quality and cutting-edge graphics, with many fans noticing a marked improvement compared with previous MLS coverage.

The improvement is largely due to a huge upscale in production. Major League Soccer used to rely on multiple regional sports networks for coverage, while ESPN, Fox Sports and Univision also produced games. Consequently, the viewing experience was inconsistent and somewhat awkward.

Today, however, all the games are produced by IMG, one of the industry’s leading lights. The English Premier League uses IMG for its 24/7 television channel, and the step-up in quality is clear for all to see.

It is also worth noting that the standard of the TV camera operators has improved dramatically, too, providing a superior overall viewing experience.

Will MLS Season Pass continue to be a hit?

The early signs indicate that MLS Season Pass is a success. Of course, there are some inevitable teething problems that need to be ironed out, but it’s certainly a case of ‘so far, so good’ for Apple TV’s new platform.

The 2023 Major League Soccer season has started in style, with debut club St. Louis City SC notching five straight wins to kick-start their inaugural campaign.

MLS Season Pass is available for $14.99 a month, while fans can also purchase an annual pass for $99 a season.
