Since his appointment as interim boss in January, Carrick has secured Champions League football and won 10 of his 15 matches

Manchester United legend, Wayne Rooney, has made a strong case for the club to offer Michael Carrick a permanent contract. This comes after Carrick's impressive performance as interim boss since January, which has seen him secure Champions League football and win ten out of his 15 matches in charge.

Rooney's call is not just about acknowledging Carrick's achievements but also about the need for stability at the club. He argues that delaying decisions on managerial appointments could potentially harm the club. This is particularly relevant considering that Manchester United have yet to make a definitive decision on their manager despite Carrick being a firm favourite among fans and top players like Bruno Fernandes.

Wayne Rooney, Manchester United legend, said:

"Manchester United need to invest in players in the summer in order to compete in the Premier League next season, in the Champions League next season, which is where they want to be. They have to invest. They have to strengthen the squad and I don't think there's any denying that.

"Now, if I was a player and Man Utd wanted to sign me, the first question I'd ask 'who is the manager? Does the manager want me?' So I think for Man Utd to have clarity on the manager. I think for the club to announce him, I think they need to do it swiftly because they need to get players in. They need to get players to improve that team."

The impact of Michael Carrick

Carrick was appointed as interim boss following Ruben Amorim's explosive press conference after the draw at Leeds. Since then, he has completely turned around the fortunes of the club. His leadership style and tactical acumen have been instrumental in this transformation.

The former midfielder’s impact can be seen in his impressive record - winning two-thirds of his matches in charge so far. However, it remains uncertain whether he will guide the side into next season as he awaits a decision from Manchester United’s board. As we look towards what lies ahead for Manchester United, it is clear that key decisions need to be made swiftly and decisively. Rooney’s comments highlight this urgency while also endorsing Michael Carrick as an ideal candidate for permanent manager based on his proven track record.

The coming months will be crucial for Manchester United as they decide on their managerial future. Rooney’s endorsement of Carrick adds another layer to the ongoing discussion and it remains to be seen whether the board will heed his advice.
