Tottenham Hotspur has made the first move in a potential tug-of-war with Chelsea over Dutch playmaker Xavi Simons. According to Sky Germany, the Premier League club has submitted an opening offer to RB Leipzig for the 22-year-old, who is valued at around €70m by his Bundesliga side.
Simons will not train with RB Leipzig while negotiations about his future are ongoing. With Monday’s transfer deadline fast approaching, a move now seems increasingly likely. The young player is already in London, sparking interest from both Tottenham and Chelsea.
Chelsea has also shown interest in signing Xavi Simons but has yet to make an official offer. This delay could provide Tottenham with an opportunity to swoop in and secure the talented playmaker's services.
Potential space at Chelsea
The pending transfer of Christopher Nkunku to Milan might open up a space for Simons in Chelsea squad. However, it remains uncertain whether they will match or exceed Tottenham's offer which is close to Leipzig’s valuation of Simons.
If he does leave RB Leipzig, it appears that the Premier League would be Simon's preferred destination. While there have been 'loose communications' between him and Chelsea previously reported, no concrete offers have been made by them yet. As we approach September 1st deadline day, it seems like a race against time between these two London clubs for Simon's signature on their team sheet - and as things stand now - Tottenham appear to be leading this race.
All eyes are on these two premier league giants as they vie for this promising young talent before Monday’s deadline hits. Whether or not Xavi Simons will don Spurs' white jersey or Blues' blue one remains unknown, but one thing is for sure - the Premier League could be his next destination.
