Tottenham Hotspur are set to welcome back a player from injury, providing a much-needed boost to the team. This comes as good news following an injury scare during the international break.
Compared to last season, which was disastrous on the injury front, Spurs have fared considerably better this year. However, international windows always pose challenges with players traveling long distances and playing in different time zones under varying pitch conditions.
The risk of injuries tends to increase during these periods and Tottenham did experience two scares during the recent break. Yves Bissouma and Ben Davies both suffered injuries but fortunately for Spurs fans, Davies' condition doesn't appear serious.
Bissouma's ankle injury
Bissouma's situation is more complex. The midfielder had been out since the start of the season and hadn't played for Spurs yet this term before returning in time to represent Mali in a World Cup qualifier.
Despite Mali already being eliminated at that point, Bissouma traveled to Africa only to pick up an ankle injury almost immediately after coming off the bench. He was unable to leave the pitch unaided and had to be stretchered off.
While not considered a starter for Spurs, Bissouma plays an important depth role within their squad - something that became evident last term when unexpected needs arose at various positions throughout their lineup.
Timely recovery expected
However, there is some positive news on this front as well; according Football.London reports suggest that Bissouma’s injury isn’t as severe as initially feared. Instead of months out of action, he is expected only miss weeks suggesting a recovery period of around 3-4 weeks.
This could mean he might return just in time for Tottenham’s last game before next international break against Manchester United on November 8. This would be a significant boost for Spurs, who will want Bissouma as an option, especially considering his contract is set to expire at the end of the season and he could potentially be sold in January.
Injuries are an inevitable part of football, but Tottenham's improved record this season has been encouraging. The return of Bissouma from injury could provide a timely boost for the team as they prepare for their upcoming clash with Manchester United. Despite not being a regular starter, his presence adds depth to the squad and provides additional options for manager Frank Lampard.
