Guehi, who joined Crystal Palace from Chelsea in 2021, has played 167 games and nearly signed with Liverpool this summer

Crystal Palace captain, Marc Guehi, has announced his decision not to renew his contract and will be leaving the club next year. This news was confirmed by manager Oliver Glasner.

Glasner expressed that Crystal Palace had hoped for the 25-year-old England defender to extend his stay with them. However, with Guehi's current deal set to expire at the end of this season, he has decided otherwise.

Crystal Palace manager, Oliver Glasner, said:

"They offered Marc a new contract, but he said, 'No, I want to make something different', and that's normal,"

The club now faces two potential scenarios: either sell Guehi in the upcoming January transfer window or allow him to leave as a free agent next summer. "It's about how we can deal with this situation," Glasner said. "What is the best way to get this next step done? And that's all about how we are talking together."

Successful stint at Crystal Palace

Since joining from Chelsea in 2021, Guehi has played an impressive 167 games for Crystal Palace and was even on the brink of signing with Liverpool earlier this summer.

He successfully passed a medical examination and was slated for a £35m move before it fell through on transfer deadline day due to complications with securing Brighton defender Igor Julio as a replacement.

Despite these setbacks, Guehi remained committed and played all 12 games for Palace across all competitions during this season. His contributions have been instrumental in propelling them into sixth place in Premier League standings.

Potential suitors lining up

Reports indicate that Crystal Palace may be looking forward to selling him off during January’s transfer window. If true, Liverpool could face stiff competition from football giants like Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich who are also reportedly interested in acquiring him.

Guehi recently earned his 26th cap playing for England during their recent friendly match against Wales which they won by three goals without reply. He expressed optimism about his chances of making the squad for the 2026 World Cup, even if he remains at Palace for the rest of this season.

Marc Guehi's departure from Crystal Palace will undoubtedly be a significant loss to the club. However, it also opens up new opportunities for both parties involved. As sports fans and sports betting enthusiasts keenly watch these developments, it will be interesting to see where Guehi's career path leads him next and how Crystal Palace plans to fill his void.
