Although Rosenior appears to be the frontrunner, Francesco Farioli from Porto is also being considered as a possible candidate

In the wake of Enzo Maresca's departure, Strasbourg manager Liam Rosenior has emerged as the leading contender for the Chelsea job. The former Leicester boss left his role amid internal tensions with the club's hierarchy and ownership, sparking a search for a new head coach.

The process to replace Maresca is already underway, with Englishman Rosenior being touted as the frontrunner. However, sources have stressed that other candidates are also under consideration.

Rosenior currently manages Strasbourg, a team owned by investment vehicle BlueCo - which interestingly was set up to purchase Chelsea in 2022. The 41-year-old former Hull manager enjoys significant backing internally at Chelsea and it is understood that potential replacements are already being considered at Strasbourg due to his possible departure.

Other contenders in line

While Rosenior seems to be leading the race, Porto manager Francesco Farioli has also been mooted as a potential contender. Prior to appointing Maresca in 2024, Chelsea had interviewed several high-profile managers including Marseille’s Roberto de Zerbi, Ipswich’s Kieran McKenna and Thomas Frank who has since moved on to Tottenham.

Past links have connected Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola and Fulham's Marco Silva with the role but their current status remains unclear.

However, given that there will be no change in their style of play post-Maresca era; Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner is highly unlikely to be considered for this position.

Interim leadership

In light of these developments, Calum McFarlane - currently serving as head coach for Chelsea Under-21s - will lead the side during Sunday’s match against Manchester City. He will also handle media duties during Friday’s news conference previewing this game.

A recent social media post from goalkeeper Robert Sanchez indicates that Maresca's backroom team has also departed the club, suggesting a complete overhaul of the coaching staff.

While Rosenior seems to be in pole position for the Chelsea job, it is clear that the club is considering all its options. The coming days will undoubtedly bring more clarity as Chelsea looks to usher in a new era of leadership. Regardless of who takes over, fans and sports betting enthusiasts alike will be eagerly watching how this transition unfolds.
