Indonesian soccer enthusiasts have a reason to celebrate as they will soon be able to watch all matches featuring Borussia Monchengladbach and the league's first-ever Indonesian player, Kevin Diks, free-to-air (FTA). This development is thanks to a deal between heavyweight media firm MNC and the Bundesliga International arm of the league.
The agreement marks a significant milestone for soccer fans in Indonesia. It allows them access to all fixtures involving German Bundesliga club Borussia Monchengladbach during the 2025-26 season FTA through RCTI and iNews MNC channels. The team now boasts Kevin Diks, who represents the Indonesian national team and signed with Monchengladbach from Denmark's FC Copenhagen earlier this year.
Extension between Bundesliga International and MNC
The deal forms part of an overall extension between Bundesliga International and MNC. This extension ensures that all nine games each matchday continue being broadcasted via MNC's array of channels. Of these nine games, four will be made available FTA, including those involving Monchengladbach.
Peer Naubert, chief executive at Bundesliga International, said:
"The Bundesliga is by far the fastest growing of the European leagues in Indonesia, with a ten per cent jump in both interest and followers compared even to last season. Extending our broadcast deals with two trusted partners only reinforces our position as a leader in the market.”
This arrangement follows on from a previous agreement announced last August where four out of nine fixtures each gameday were made available FTA. Pay-TV and streaming coverage were also included in that tie-up.
Telkomsel extends deal with Bundesliga
In related news, Telkomsel - an Indonesian telecommunications firm - has also extended its deal with Bundesliga for next season coverage through AllPlay Sports Channel on IndiHome TV. This move further enhances accessibility for local fans eager to follow their favorite teams' progress throughout the season.
These developments represent exciting times ahead for sports fans in Indonesia – particularly those following soccer closely. With increased access to live matches featuring their homegrown talent like Kevin Diks, fans can now stay connected with the sport they love. The partnerships between MNC, Bundesliga International, and Telkomsel are a testament to the growing popularity of soccer in Indonesia and the potential for further growth in the future.
