Chelsea manager, Enzo Maresca, has been handed a one-match touchline ban following his dismissal in the thrilling victory against Liverpool in the Premier League. The Italian was shown a second yellow card by referee Anthony Taylor for leaving the technical area to celebrate with his players after Estevao Willian's 95th-minute winner against the reigning champions earlier this month.
The Football Association (FA) stated that Maresca admitted to the charge and accepted the standard penalty. In addition to his suspension, he has also been fined £8,000. This incident marks another chapter in Maresca's disciplinary record since becoming a Premier League manager in June 2024.
The Football Association released statement:
"It was alleged that the manager acted in an improper manner and/or used abusive and/or insulting words and/or behaviour during the fixture, which led to his dismissal around the 96th minute,"
Consequences of the ban
As a result of this ban, Maresca will not be present in Chelsea’s dugout when they face Ange Postecoglou's Nottingham Forest at City Ground on Saturday. Willy Caballero, Chelsea’s assistant coach is expected to step up and deputise for him during this crucial match.
This isn't the first time that Maresca has faced disciplinary action from football authorities. He served his first suspension back in April 2025 after receiving a third yellow card of that season while celebrating Pedro Neto's decisive goal during stoppage time at Fulham.
While fans appreciate their coaches' passion and commitment to the game, it's essential for them to maintain decorum and respect the rules of the sport. Maresca's recent ban serves as a reminder of this delicate balance between passion and discipline in football.
