Although the main focus of this partnership is sports content, it also includes other genres such as culture and true crime

Netflix, the original streaming disruptor, is set to expand its sports content offering through a new partnership with Spotify. This collaboration will see several of Spotify Studios and The Ringer’s most popular podcasts join the platform in early 2026.

The deal includes some of the most popular podcasts from The Ringer such as The Bill Simmons Podcast, The Zack Lowe Show, and The Mismatch. These shows have garnered a significant following over time due to their insightful analysis and engaging discussions on various sports topics.

While this partnership primarily focuses on sports content, it also encompasses other genres like culture and true crime. This move signifies an attempt by both companies to diversify their offerings while catering to a wider audience base.

Future collaborations with Spotify

Spotify acquired The Ringer in 2020 as part of its strategy to invest in audiobook production and forge content partnerships with other creators. Following this successful acquisition, Spotify has expressed interest in offering similar collaboration deals for other shows in the future.

This strategic move could potentially lead to an influx of diverse content on both platforms - providing listeners with more options while also expanding their market reach.

Lauren Smith, Netflix vice president of content licensing and programming strategy, said:

“At Netflix, we’re always looking for new ways to entertain our members, wherever and however they want to watch,”

“As video podcasts continue to grow in popularity, our partnership with Spotify allows us to bring full video versions of these top shows to both Netflix and Spotify audiences. From pop culture and lifestyle to true crime and sports, this curated selection of video podcasts adds fresh voices and new perspectives to Netflix, making our entertainment lineup more exciting than ever.”

Netflix's growing sports portfolio

Netflix has been steadily increasing its presence within the sports industry through global deals with WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment), NFL (National Football League), among others. It currently owns North American rights for the 2027 and 2031 Fifa Women’s World Cup - further solidifying its position within live sport broadcasting.

Moreover, there are strong indications that Netflix may acquire a package of worldwide Uefa Champions League rights from 2027 onwards. If confirmed, this would significantly enhance their live sport offerings while attracting more sports fans onto their platform.

This collaborative venture between Netflix and Spotify presents exciting opportunities for both companies as they seek to expand their content offerings and reach a wider audience. For sports fans and sports betting enthusiasts, this partnership promises an array of engaging content - from insightful podcasts to live sport broadcasts. As the landscape of digital streaming continues to evolve, partnerships like these are likely to become more common. They not only benefit the companies involved but also enrich the user experience by providing diverse and quality content.
