UK pay-TV giant, Sky Sports, has secured rights to broadcast clips and highlights from the top-flight Saudi Pro League (SPL) on its digital and social media platforms for the remainder of the season. This move will provide sports fans in the UK and Ireland with access to match highlights from each round of matches, live in-game action, and best moments from each match round.
The content will be available on various platforms including the Sky Sports app and website, the Sky Sports News channel, as well as on their social media channels. The SPL this season features a host of former English Premier League players such as Ivan Toney, Sadio Mane, Riyad Mahrez, Joao Felix, N'Golo Kante among others.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al Nassr is currently leading after winning all four opening games. Ronaldo is seeking his first SPL title since joining Al Nassr in 2023.
Expanding coverage
In August 2021, Sky also acquired rights to show clips and highlights from Spain’s LaLiga through a three-season deal running until 2027-28. In addition to this coverage expansion into Spanish football territory; Germany’s Bundesliga also receives digital video coverage by Sky Sports which includes live matches too. This complements its domestic rights for broadcasting Premier League matches along with Women's Super League (WSL), English Football League (EFL), Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL) within UK territories.
The SPL recently announced an uplift of 20% in its annual global media rights revenue over the past two seasons due to new agreements that were secured recently. The league is being shown across more than 180 global territories during the ongoing 2025-26 campaign thanks to numerous partnerships that have led to consistent growth in media rights revenue.
The 2024-25 campaign reportedly drew as many as 230 million fans globally, demonstrating the league's widespread popularity.
Expanding reach through short-form content
In addition to traditional broadcast agreements, the SPL has also been working on expanding its reach through short-form content like highlights across platforms such as YouTube, OneFootball, and DAZN where it has established a content hub.
The league’s media rights are managed by heavyweight sports marketing agency IMG which renewed its partnership with the competition for another four-year cycle back in August.
This move by Sky Sports to provide Saudi Pro League clips and highlights is a testament to the growing global appeal of the SPL and will undoubtedly contribute towards increasing its fan base among UK and Irish sports enthusiasts.
