Liverpool and Tottenham agreed last week to move Robertson after Liverpool's final Champions League match on Wednesday

Liverpool FC have reportedly decided not to sell left-back Andy Robertson to Tottenham Hotspur in the upcoming transfer window. Despite an initial agreement and a £5m offer from Spurs, several factors have led the Reds to reconsider.

Last week, a deal was agreed upon in principle between Liverpool and Tottenham that would see Robertson move after Liverpool's final Champions League match on Wednesday. However, this deal was contingent on several factors that have since fallen through.

One of these conditions was the recall of left-back Kostas Tsimikas from his loan at Roma. As it stands, Liverpool has been unable to secure his return. This setback is further compounded by defender Joe Gomez's recent injury during Saturday's Premier League defeat at Bournemouth.

Key player for Liverpool

Despite these developments, it is understood that Andy Robertson himself was not pushing for a move. The Scotland captain is eager for more regular playtime ahead of this summer's World Cup but remains committed to his current team.

Robertson joined Liverpool from Hull City in 2017 during Jurgen Klopp’s tenure as manager and has since made 364 appearances for the club. Over his time with the Reds, he has helped them secure nine trophies including two Premier League titles and one Champions League title.

However, under new management by Arne Slot, Milos Kerkez has become the preferred option as first-choice left-back over Robertson who started just four times in this season’s Premier League matches so far.

Team support

After their recent match against Bournemouth where Robertson came off the bench replacing Kerkez, Virgil van Dijk - captain of Liverpool - expressed his desire for him to stay with the team calling him a "very important" member of their squad.

As defending champions currently sitting sixth in league standings – 14 points behind leaders Arsenal – Liverpool is in a strong position to reach the Champions League last 16. They are also set to face Brighton in the fourth round of the FA Cup next month.

With the transfer window closing on 2 February, it remains to be seen how these developments will affect Liverpool's strategy and team dynamics. Despite Robertson's reduced playtime this season, his contributions over his tenure with Liverpool have been significant and he continues to be a valued member of their squad. While there was potential for a move, as things stand now, Andy Robertson is unlikely to transfer from Liverpool FC to Tottenham Hotspur in this window.
