Eberechi Eze's expired £68million release clause suggests a future deal would likely cost less

Crystal Palace midfielder Eberechi Eze is widely expected to join Tottenham this summer. However, recent developments suggest that the transfer may be delayed further as talks between the two clubs continue.

Oliver Glasner, Crystal Palace manager, anticipates that Eze will remain a part of his team for their first-ever European fixture. This comes after an unexpected turn of events during Sunday’s 0-0 draw at Chelsea where Eze was initially due to sit out but ended up starting and even had a goal disallowed. Glasner now believes that Eze will stay with Crystal Palace until at least the club’s Conference League play-off first leg against Fredrikstad on Thursday.

Crystal Palace manager, Oliver Glasner, said:

"Ebs should have scored a goal today, he had one and it was disallowed. He will come tomorrow to the Crystal Palace training ground, Tuesday off, we take Wednesday and I expect him to be back playing for us against Fredrikstad."

Unforeseen change in plans

Standard Sport reports indicate that Glasner was set to leave Eze out of Sunday’s squad as all signs pointed towards an agreement being reached for his sale to Spurs. However, when no breakthrough came overnight as expected, Glasner decided that Eze would still be involved.

Oliver Glasner added:

"He was picked because he is a Crystal Palace player, and he’s a very good Crystal Palace player. There was no reason not to pick him. It is impossible to draw at Chelsea if everyone is no 100 per cent committed.”

Future of the transfer deal

Eberechi Eze's £68million release clause expired last week which means any future deal would likely involve less money than originally anticipated. Despite this change in circumstances, Spurs are still interested in acquiring the talented midfielder. Glasner acknowledged this situation.

Oliver Glasner added:

“I know Ebs' clause is gone so it is the club's decision [whether he goes]. We will see what happens."

The transfer of Eberechi Eze to Spurs is a highly anticipated move for sports fans and sports betting enthusiasts alike. However, the delay in negotiations and unexpected changes in plans have added an element of suspense to this summer's transfer window. As we wait for further developments, one thing is clear: Eze remains a valuable asset to Crystal Palace and his potential departure would be a significant loss for the club.
