Crystal Palace, the South London club, have agreed to a £35m deal to sign Brennan Johnson, the Tottenham attacker. However, the final decision rests with Johnson who is yet to agree on joining Selhurst Park club.
BBC Sport revealed on 18 December that Crystal Palace was advanced in their efforts to secure the Wales international. However, they decided not to make a formal move until after their Premier League fixture against Tottenham on Sunday. Following this match-up, an agreement for Johnson's move across London has been reached.
Despite this development, 24-year-old Brennan Johnson is still in talks over his future and is expected to make a decision within the next 48 hours. His decision comes amid interest from other Premier League sides apart from Crystal Palace.
Bournemouth's interest in Johnson
Bournemouth also rates him highly and views him as a potential replacement for Antoine Semenyo should he leave in January. This adds another layer of complexity and intrigue as we wait for his final decision. Tottenham manager Thomas Frank confirmed that despite these developments, the Wales international was available to face Brentford on New Year's Day. This suggests that while negotiations are ongoing behind-the-scenes regarding his transfer status; it doesn't affect his current standing within the team.
Tottenham manager, Thomas Frank, said:
"Brennan has been a top professional. He has trained well today and is ready in two days' time [for the game against Brentford]."
However, it seems like Tottenham themselves are looking out for new attackers which could limit opportunities for players like Brennan even more if he decides to stay back at Spurs instead of moving across town or elsewhere. It has been understood that they have shown interest in RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande (19) and Manchester City attacker Savinho (21). These potential signings indicate that Spurs are preparing themselves well ahead regardless of whether or not they lose any existing players during this transfer window.
While there is an agreement in place for Brennan Johnson to move to Crystal Palace, the final decision rests with him. With interest from other Premier League sides and Bournemouth, it will be interesting to see where he decides his future lies. Meanwhile, Tottenham is also preparing for any eventuality by showing interest in new attackers. The next 48 hours will be crucial in determining the direction of this transfer saga.
