The Blues will reportedly look to sell Ben Chilwell in winter window

Chelsea Football Club has made a new decision regarding their England defender, Ben Chilwell. Despite his recent re-introduction into the first-team fold at Stamford Bridge, the club is looking to sell him during the January transfer window.

Chilwell was placed in Chelsea’s Bomb Squad following Enzo Maresca’s arrival this summer. However, he was unable to secure a transfer away from the club despite interest from several teams. Manchester United and Brentford were both briefly linked with a move for Chilwell, while multiple Turkish clubs expressed an interest without submitting a concrete bid.

As no successful bids were made, the ex-Leicester City player remained at Chelsea. Although he has now returned to first-team training, Chelsea still hopes to sell him in January.

Limited game time for Chilwell

Chilwell is yet to feature in a Premier League matchday squad this season. His only appearance so far this campaign was as a substitute against Barrow in the Carabao Cup last week.

Marc Cucurella currently holds the position of Chelsea’s first-choice left-back with summer signing Renato Veiga playing back-up to him. This leaves Chilwell with an extremely reduced role at Chelsea which further fuels their intention of selling him during the upcoming January transfer window according to The Mirror.

The 27-year-old defender has just under three years remaining on his existing deal with West London Club. His Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) stands at €19.2 million which could be an attractive proposition for potential buyers looking for experienced defenders during mid-season transfers.

Enzo Maresca's take on the situation

Enzo Maresca spoke about this situation ahead of Chelsea’s Premier League win over Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday.

Enzo Maresca, Chelsea manager, said:

“In the moment we need him [Chilwell], for sure, why not?

“I will say again, at the moment he is with us, he is one of the Chelsea players and one of our players. If we need to, we will give him chances and minutes.

“We all make mistakes. I had to make a decision; sometimes they are good and sometimes not. There is not any bad intention from me. It was just to try and think of the best thing for the club."

The decision to sell Ben Chilwell is a significant one for Chelsea, given his talent and experience. It will be interesting to see how this situation unfolds during the January transfer window and which club might secure his services. For sports fans and sports betting enthusiasts, this could add an exciting twist to the upcoming transfer season.
