BBC reveals large viewing figures for Ashes highlights shows

Today At The Test recorded a television reach of 8.3 million

The Ashes, one of the most highly anticipated cricket series, captured the attention of millions of viewers across various platforms.

The BBC's coverage of the Ashes highlights reached an impressive TV audience of 8.3 million people, peaking at two million on the final day of the men's series.

The comprehensive coverage called "Today At The Test" was broadcast on BBC2, BBC4, and iPlayer throughout both the men's and women's series. Both series ended in draws after Australia initially took early leads.

During these two riveting contests, 17.8 million viewers tuned in to watch both BBC and Sky Sports live coverage of the Ashes, up 14% from the previous home series. Sky Sports also saw record-breaking numbers for its coverage with several milestones achieved during this edition of The Ashes.

This included broadcasting their most-watched test match ever as well as recording their highest-ever audience for a women's international T20 game. Furthermore, they also witnessed their peak viewer count for any women’s Ashes match.

Not only did television audiences show immense interest in The Ashes but digital platforms experienced massive engagement too.

Almost 500 million page views were recorded by fans following all action-packed moments from both men’s and women’s matches across multiple streaming services and websites belonging to both broadcasters (BBC & Sky). 

Additionally, nearly 60 million video views were tallied up while social media platforms accumulated an astonishing 194 million views within just the UK territory alone. Comparing statistics from last year's edition with this year's, video content received a significant jump of approximately 60% when compared to last year's.

Moreover, TMS (Test Match Special), widely regarded as radio cricketing enthusiasts' go-to source for live commentary had phenomenal success too.

With over twenty-seven point three million listening requests via BBC Sounds and BBC Sport platforms, it was clear that cricket fans just couldn't get enough of the exhilarating action.

These figures however don’t even take into account additional listenership gained through other mediums such as DAB radio, Radio 4 Longwave and 5 Live Sports Extra. With over a million requests to stream TMS from overseas fans on BBC Sport's YouTube channel, TMS' popularity went beyond borders.

All in all, this year's Ashes series captivated millions across various media platforms - television broadcasting, video streaming services as well as audio commentary channels.

The Ashes remain one of the most celebrated sporting events worldwide, with record-breaking audiences on TV and digital outlets, combined with unprecedented social media engagement.
