Ansu Fati has fallen down the pecking order at FC Barcelona this season

Ansu Fati has been the talk of the town at FC Barcelona with the player’s father Bori Fati making a series of controversial comments earlier this week.

Bori Fati blasted into FC Barcelona and manager Xavi Hernandez earlier this week and accused the club of not treating his son properly. He also said that he did not understand why Xavi hasn’t started Fati regularly this season.

There has been speculation over the winger’s future at the club with reports suggesting that he could be sold this summer to ease Barcelona’s financial situation.

Despite the background chatter, Xavi decided to start Fati in the game against Elche. At around the eighth minute of the game, Albert Ferrer, who was on the commentary panel reckoned that Fati should have trained well all season and not only because his father came up with a few comments that could potentially make his situation at the club worse. It was brought to light that Fati trained extremely well this week leading up to the game against Elche, prompting the rather strange remark from the former Barcelona defender.

“Ansu Fati should’ve been training well every week and not because his father came up with those comments”

Fati is known to be one of the more hard-working players in the squad and this comment from Ferrer goes against the run of play. The prospect though repaid Xavi’s faith in him with a sublime finish from outside the box and that should help him feel at ease, given his recent situation.

With his performance on Saturday, Fati is in line for more minutes for the remainder of this season's La Liga Santander, at least.

Barcelona dominate at Elche

The visitors controlled the game from start to finish though the midfield did struggle to keep the ball at times. The Blaugrana will be pleased with Fati and Ferran Torres’ goal contributions. Robert Lewandowski also contributed nicely with a brace and that should give the former La Liga champions a world of confidence ahead of the semi-final El Classico next week if they are not already flying high.

Xavi’s rotations worked and his idea to employ Eric Garcia as a pivot also paid off as the La Masia product played a neat game in a position he is not used to playing.

Barca, with this 4-0 victory now go up 15 points clear at top of the La Liga table and will know that they have one hand on the title.
