In live football today, we are all set to watch AC Milan take on AS Roma at the San Siro in what promises to be a great game between two really entertaining sides.
They say that a day can make a whole lot of difference. In Milan’s case however, a man can make an even bigger difference. Since he has come in, AC Milan have become one of the toughest sides in Italy.
After being mired in mediocrity for over a decade, the Rossoneri are slowly rising from the ashes. The giant that had been in a long slumber is waking up and smelling its chance.
Now they await Roma who have been in fairly decent form so far this season and appear to be much more stable in defense than they did last season. Under Paulo Fonseca, it has become clear that the Lupi want to play from the back.
In the 2-2 draw with Juventus, Roma gave a true account of their potential and if they can build on such displays, a Champions League spot wouldn’t seem to be a distant target.
AC Milan eager to maintain 100% record
Following a 3-1 win over Celtic in their opening game of the Europa League, Milan continued with their 100% win record in all competitions. Pioli’s men are this far unbeaten in the Serie A and have 12 points from 4 games.
So far, they’ve managed to do well in every test but the game against Roma would be a great assessment of how far they’ve come and whether they are genuine title contenders or not. A win against Fonseca’s men would go a long way in commanding the board’s confidence in the team’s ability to get back to its best.
AS Roma registered a well-deserved 2-1 win over Young Boys Berne in their opening Europa League encounter. Goals from Marash Kumbulla and Bruno Peres helped the team overcome a 1-0 scoreline.
And Fonseca would be eager to see his players at least get something out of the encounter with Milan.
Players in spotlight
Zlatan Ibrahimovic (AC Milan)
At the age of 39, the Swede is still at the top of his game. It was a great decision by the club to bring him back to the San Siro since his arrival has coincided with the revival in the team’s fortunes.
Leading from the front, the former PSG star knows what it takes to win and his presence has really galvanized the rest of his teammates into putting in consistent displays. The veteran striker expects the highest standards from himself and expects the same from his teammates.
This is why he is still at his peak and is going to prove crucial to his team’s chances of achieving great things in the coming months.
Hakan Calhanoglou (AC Milan)
The Turkish international is one of the most important players for AC Milan. Blessed with excellent technique and great vision, the former Bayern Leverkusen attacking midfielder is as important to the club as Ibrahimovic.
His precise passing and ability to carve out openings for the Swede means that Milan are always a threat going forward. The game against Roma who mostly operate with a three-man defense, is going to be a challenge but you can expect Calhanoglou to come up with the goods.
Marash Kumbulla (AS Roma)
The young Albanian has become an integral member of the starting lineup ever since he signed for Roma. Not only is he a great defender, Kumbulla is very confident on the ball and has formed quite a good partnership with Juan at the back.
His ability to spread passes and anticipating attacking moves before they develop have helped Roma become more stable at the back. Coming up against Ibrahimovic, the youngster will have to be on his toes throughout the 90 minutes.
Predictions
You can expect a cagey opening but once these two teams find their rhythm, it might turn out to be quite an entertaining encounter. However, Milan seem to have enough in the tank to register their fifth league win of the season.
