With 18 months left on his contract at London Stadium, West Ham seem hesitant to part ways with their esteemed team member

West Ham United, the renowned English football club, is reportedly hesitant to sanction a sale for their star player Lucas Paqueta. This reluctance comes despite significant interest from clubs in his native Brazil.

According to sources close to BBC Sport, at least two clubs from Brazil have expressed interest in acquiring the services of the international midfielder during this transfer window. Flamengo is one of these interested parties.

Paqueta himself seems open to a move back home and there are plans underway behind the scenes for a potential return to South America. However, it remains uncertain whether this move will materialize during this current transfer window or in summer.

Hammers' stance on selling Paqueta

With 18 months remaining on his contract at London Stadium, West Ham appears unwilling to let go of their valued squad member. Despite having featured 18 times in the Premier League matches so far this season and contributing four goals and an assist, no formal offer has been received for him yet.

The club's decision on any potential offer would largely depend on its value. Given Paqueta's regular inclusion in manager Nuno Espirito Santo's plans as they strive against relegation, it would take a substantial bid for West Ham to reconsider their position.

Flamengo is understood willing enough to table an offer around £35m for Paqeutta - but whether that will be enough remains unclear.

Past controversies surrounding Paqueta

In December last year, Nuno revealed that past controversies still affect Lucas Paquetá’s performance. The Football Association had charged him with spot-fixing allegations back in May 2024 after beginning investigations into his conduct almost a year earlier.

The charges were related specifically towards allegations of deliberately getting booked "for the improper purpose of affecting the betting market". However, an independent regulatory commission cleared him of these charges in July 2025.

As the transfer window continues, it remains to be seen whether West Ham will hold on to their star player or if a significant bid from Brazil will sway their decision. For now, Lucas Paqueta's future at London Stadium hangs in the balance as both sports fans and sports betting enthusiasts keenly watch this unfolding saga.
